Hey! My name is Audrey, and I am in 8th grade. I am a speed-reader, and COMPLETELY obsessed with books. I go through about 5 novels a week, so I have a pretty firm opinion on quality of books. I started this blog because I know that many people have a lot of trouble finding good books to read. I have read enough books to know if people should (or shouldn’t) spend time reading one. I hope every time you visit the blog, you will be able to find a book you want to read!
Hi Audrey!
My name is Paul and I am a librarian aide at an elementary school in California. A teacher came in earlier asking for a book to read out loud to his 6th grade students. He said they like books about young people in danger. I’m thinking possibly the Hunger Games series, but I’m open to suggestions. I was looking for some ideas and stumbled upon your blog! Please help! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again; you rock!

Well, the Hunger Games is a GREAT series, but it is a little risky to read to a 6th grade class, and some parents might not be ok with it. I have a few friends whose parents don’t really want them to read them, and they are in 7th grade.
I would recommend A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. The book is about 3 children who are orphaned, and their evil uncle. It’s appropriate and really good/ entertaining. There is also a movie, which the class could watch after reading the book!
A few other suggestions might be The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis (If they only have time to read one, I would recommend The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and there is also a movie to it.)
OH!! And an AMAZING one would be Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins (the same person who wrote The Hunger Games). It is REALLY good, and has an amazing balance of intense-ness and comical parts. I think the class would LOVE that one. 🙂
